The 2018 Acura RDX is a mid-size crossover SUV. Having the same type of platform, as is the 2018 Toyota Highlander. The i-VTEC powertrain and Intelligent Control all-wheel drive make the RDX more dynamic and versatile than the Highlander. The AcuraLink platform also offers more applications than Toyota's Entune suite.

The 2018 Acura RDX runs on a 3.5 L V6 engine that whips out just less than 280 horsepower. Operating on the patented i-VTEC mechanism, this six-cylinder engine has a peak torque rating of slightly more than 250 lb-ft. The Variable Cylinder Management controls combustion in the powertrain. You won't find any comparable features in the 2018 Toyota Highlander's V6 engine. Every RDX can be equipped with an optional AWD system that has the Intelligent Control technology. Similarly, some of the Highlander models roll on an AWD that features the Dynamic Torque Control function. Both crossover SUVs come with six-speed automatic transmission systems. The Sequential Sportshift function makes it easy to customize the gear speeds for this Acura model. Carrying the Direct Shift label, the Highlander's transmission has the Sequential Shift Mode. However, the Grade Logic Control gives the RDX a slight edge in handling over this Toyota.

Digital Technology

The navigation system in the 2018 Acura RDX is loaded with premium applications. You can follow directions on the 3D View interface or traditional 2-D maps. With some feedback from the AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic, you'll easily beat traffic congestion. Additionally, the Traffic Rerouting function helps you find alternative routes to a particular destination. The Next Generation suite by AcuraLink offers more apps than the Toyota Highlander's Entune platform. From the palm of your hand, you could remotely access the RDX's infotainment system, ignition system and other components. Thanks to the latest Bluetooth technology, you could view text messages and emails on the main display. You may read or ignore the messages with a simple touch of the screen. Connected to hundreds of channels, the ELS Studio sound system produces great acoustics. You can seamlessly switch among Aha, Pandora, SiriusXM, Stitcher and other radio channels. The Toyota Highlander's JBL GreenEdge audio system doesn't match the acoustic capabilities of the ELS sound system.

The 2018 Acura RDX boasts an automatic climate control system that receives real-time data from GPS-powered satellites. Depending on the local weather forecast, this HVAC system will automatically adjust the temperatures inside the cabin. Despite having three zones, the climate control system in the 2018 Toyota Highlander lacks such sophisticated technology. Both crossover SUVs offer front seats that have heating and ventilation. Cooling vents are installed in the second row of the RDX. This Acura model also has a rear windshield defroster with a timer. The Smart Entry System, Keyless Access and push button start are some other premium amenities in this vehicle.
