The 2018 Acura MDX serves as a sleek-designed, comfortable and luxurious SUV that comes with not only superb engine performance but also high-tech features to keep all passengers entertained and safe throughout the entire ride. Audi vehicles are also known for all these attributes. And while the Q7 delivers an impressive performance, it comes up short against the superior MDX in multiple specs. Let's see why.

Performance

When it comes to the hardware, there is no contest. The Audi Q7's 4-cylinder engine provides drivers 19 and 25 mpg in the city and highway respectively, and dishes out 252 horsepower along with 273 lb-ft of torque. In contrast, the Standard trim for the Acura MDX includes 19 mpg in the city like the Q7, but is capable of up to 27 mpg on the highway*. As for engine performance, the MDX trumps the Q7 with 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. In fact, you'd have to upgrade all the way up to the Q7's Prestige trim in order to see better engine performance than Acura - an investment increased by over $20k. Furthermore, the Acura possesses a 19.5 gal. fuel tank, but Audi carries a 22.5 gal. one, meaning althought the Q7 can take in more fuel at a time, it's weaker fuel economy will see drivers stopping by the gas station more often for more dollars.

Interior

The MDX is barely smaller in regards to headroom and legroom compared to the Q7 - all dimensions only separated by less than an inch difference. However, Acura clearly takes the cake with regards to shoulder room for all three rows: If you have any passengers that requre a little more width in their vehicle, they can take full advantage of the MDX's 61.1, 59.1, and 54.7 in. shoulder room for the Front, 2nd and 3rd Rows respectively. In comparison, The Q7's shoulder room is only 59.5 in. for the Front, 58.5 in. for the 2nd Row and 49.4 in. for the rear. If that's not enough for drivers, they can thoroughly look forward to the superior Cargo Volume from the MDX - The Audi's 37.5 cu-ft. with the 2nd Row folded comes up short to Acura's 38.4.

Safety

As a standard feature, the MDX and Q7 comes with a Multi-View Rear Camera with dynamic guidelines to help with parking, and a lane-keeping assist system that helps guide your steering wheel if the vehicle detects you're drifting. With that said, Acura takes safety features a step further. Unlike the Q7, the MDX's Lane Keeping Assist System is accompanied by a specialzed Road Deaprture Mitigation feature: It can identify objects, such as trees, rocks or parked cars, on the side of the road as well and will give you instant notifications when they are deteced.

Another safety feature only the MDX has is its innovative The Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®)**. Using an arsenal of sensors, the VSA oversees your vehicle speed, wheel speeds, steering angle, throttle position and vehicle yaw rate. From all the data it gathers, it mitigates the risk of oversteering or understersteering by automatically reducing the engine's torque while also braking each individual wheel as needed to stablilize your MDX. The Audi does not support an equivalent feature.
