Acura offers several classic high-end sedans, including the compact ILX and the midsize TLX. If you're shopping for your next vehicle and thinking about an Acura, here's what you need to know about the 2018 versions of these luxury cars.

Performance

While powerful performance might not be first on your list, it's an important component of any luxury car; both the ILX and TLX deliver in this regard. The 2018 Acura ILX is equipped at all trims with a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine that produces 201 horsepower and 180 lb.-ft. of torque. It's paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

2018 Acura TLX drivers can choose between a 206-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder paired with an 8-speed dual clutch automatic or a 290-horsepower 3.5-liter V6. The 3.5-liter engine is paired with a nine-speed pushbutton automatic transmission on both all-wheel steer and all-wheel drive.

Interior

Both the 2018 Acura ILX and TLX are well-equipped even in the base model. Standard features in the ILX include a five-inch infotainment system with both Bluetooth and USB functionality as well as hands-free text messaging. Comfort and convenience features include dual-zone automatic climate control, a rearview camera, proximity key and push button start, a moonroof, and heated side mirrors.

The TLX includes all that plus smartphone connectivity via either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and a three-screen setup that includes a seven-inch touchscreen controller, eight-inch infotainment display, and 4.2-inch driver information display. It also adds satellite radio, real-time traffic reports, a multiangle rearview camera, hands-free messaging, Siri Eyes Free, and Pandora.

Space is the main difference between the ILX and TLX. Both include roomy seating for up to five passengers on standard faux leather upholstery, though legroom is actually slightly higher in the ILX. The ILX has 12.3 cubic feet of cargo space and a folding rear seat, while the TLX increases cargo space to 14.3 cubic feet and introduces the versatility of 60/40 split-folding rear seats.

Safety

Acura's outstanding safety reputation is evident in both the 2018 Acura ILX and TLX. All trims of the TLX are equipped with Acura's suite of advanced driver assistance features, which includes lane keep assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure and road departure warnings. Drivers can opt to add navigation and blind spot monitoring. While these features are available in the ILX, they need to be added as options and are not standard equipment.
