What's the Difference Between the Acura Type S vs Type S PMC Edition?

The difference between the regular Acura Type S vs. Type S PMC Edition includes a variety of factors. The PMC Edition stands for Performance Manufacturing Center. These new editions, launched for ordering in 2022, include the Acura TLX sedan with the Acura MDX SUV coming soon.

Acura Promotes Limited-Production PMC Editions

Another difference between the regular Acura Type S vs. Type S PMC Edition is that the PMC version of the TLX Type S sports sedan is hand-built. Orders opened in 2022, and the PMC car starts at $63,995, which is about $7,550 more than the regular Acura TLX Type S. The TLX Type S is mechanically identical to the Type S PMC Edition, but there are some extras.

If you get the Type S PMC Edition, you’ll know that your TLX is one of only 300, or possibly one of 100, using the three colors of the NSX. Other visual tweaks include a diffuser, rear spoiler, and copper-colored 20-inch wheels. Inside, there are a few trim differences, like carbon fiber details and a serialized plaque.

The PMC Edition Type S is built in the same place as the NSX Type S, which is different from where the regular TLX Type S cars are built. However, it features the same 3.0-liter V6 engine that makes 355 horsepower.

New TLX Type S PMC Edition Paint Color

New for 2023, Acura is making 50 hand-built Type S PMC Editions in a new Gotham Gray matte paint color. The Acura Type S doesn’t come with this paint color. Instead, it was previously only available for the NSX Type S supercar. This paint is unique in that it uses a clear matte metallic finish. These hand-built PMC Edition cars were sent to dealers this spring.

The new PMC Edition cars are priced at $65,000. A few new features were added as well. Black paint garnishes the door handles and part of the lower side sill, 20-inch wheels are also finished in black, and a carbon fiber decklid lip spoiler adorns the rear. Other features include an individually numbered serial plaque, Type S badging throughout, and a red leather interior that is contrasted with black stitching and suede trim.

Exploring the Acura TLX Type S

To get a clearer idea of the differences between the Acura Type S vs. Type S PMC Edition, let’s take a look at the regular Acura TLX Type S for comparison. Finding one of these at Pohanka Acura will be a lot easier than getting a hold of one of the PMC Edition cars. Firstly, the Acura TLX Type S starts at $55,750. However, the powertrains on both cars are exactly the same. Both cars also come standard with AWD.

The only slight difference with the Acura TLX Type S is that it gets up to 25 MPG on the highway vs. the PMC Edition cars, which get up to 24 MPG on the highway. The slight difference might be explained by some of the extra exterior features on the PMC cars.
