First Years
The very first 2001 Acura MDX made its debut in the year 2000. Its name stands for “multi-dimensional” luxury, and it’s clear to see why. Its rugged 3.5L V6 powertrain was capable of achieving exciting speeds, and its automatic 4WD system made it a popular choice for drivers who were seeking a vehicle with off-road capabilities. This model also offered innovative tech features for its time, including available built-in navigation and a DVD entertainment system. Between 2001 and 2006, the MDX began to boast stylish features, such as dual tail pipes, chrome accents, and refreshed faux wood interior trim. This trend would continue as the vehicle entered its second generation in 2007.
Gaining Traction
Once the Acura MDX began its second generation, it started to look a bit more similar to the vehicles you might see during your Route 50 commute. This new era would prove to be bigger and better than ever before, both in its design and its engineering. The 2007 Acura MDX offered a 3.7L V6 engine, updated front and rear fascias with modern, angular designs, and even the modern SH-AWD system that the MDX uses to this day. The third generation, which spanned from 2014 to 2020, focused on efficiency and comfort rather than size and power. It featured both all-gas and hybrid powertrains, offered a FWD system as well as SH-AWD, and began integrating 7- and 8-inch touchscreens into the dashboard.
Modern Day
We’ve finally arrived at the Acura MDX’s fourth and most modern generation, which spans from 2022 to the present day. Recent models maintain several of the thoughtful amenities of the previous generations while continuing to modernize design elements, performance features, and connectivity. All modern MDX models include adjustable moonroofs, and most trims decorate all three rows of seating with leatherette or leather upholstery.
