Head-to-Head: Luxury Electric Crossovers

The 2024 Acura ZDX is a standout model in the luxury electric crossover segment and generally appeals to a different audience vs. some other crossover EV models. However, one of its top competitors is the Lexus RZ. Pohanka Acura takes a look at how these two luxury electric crossovers match up.

Comparing Safety Features

Both the Acura ZDX and Lexus RZ feature child safety locks to keep kids from opening the rear doors. However, the child safety locks on the ZDX are power locks, which means you can activate them from the driver's seat and see when they're engaged. The locks on the RZ need to be engaged individually on each door with a manual switch. You won't know whether the locks are engaged unless you check them.

Another top safety feature on the 2024 Acura ZDX is its standard pre-tensioning seatbelts. These sense rear collisions and remove the slack to prevent whiplash. The RZ doesn't have this. Both vehicles have standard driver and passenger front airbags, plus several other airbags throughout. According to the NHTSA, a heavier vehicle is safer in a collision, and the Acura ZDX is up to 1775 pounds heavier than the Lexus RZ.

Power and Performance Showdown

The Lexus RZ offers a choice of two electric powertrains. The 300e makes 201 horsepower and 196 pound-feet of torque. The 450e makes 308 horsepower and 321 pound-feet of torque. In comparison, the 2024 ZDX offers a choice of three electric powertrains and all three are more powerful than the Lexus.

The A-Spec base powertrain on the ZDX makes 358 horsepower* and 324 pound-feet of torque. The middle A-Spec AWD powertrain makes 490 horsepower* and 437 pound-feet of torque. At the top of the lineup is the Type S powertrain which makes 500 horsepower* and 544 pound-feet of torque. For the most power and performance, the ZDX comes out on top.

2024 Acura ZDX vs. Lexus RZ: How Efficient Are They?

One of the first things customers like to know about EV models is how far they can travel on a full charge. With the FWD 300e powertrain and 18-inch wheels, the Lexus RZ can travel a maximum of 266 miles on a full charge. Its lowest range is with the larger powertrain, AWD, and 20-inch wheels. This configuration only manages 196 miles on a full charge.

In comparison, the Acura ZDX can travel up to 313 miles* on a full charge with the base powertrain and RWD. The lowest range for the ZDX is 278 miles* with AWD and the Type S powertrain. As you can see, even the lowest range for the ZDX is higher than the RZ.

Other Factors to Consider

The 2024 Acura ZDX outperforms the Lexus RZ in several areas. If you're still not sure whether the ZDX fits your needs, there are a few other factors that make a difference. The Acura can tow up to 3500 pounds*, whereas the Lexus is not rated to tow at all. The ZDX comes with standard trailer sway control as well.

Thanks to its adjustable suspension system, the ZDX allows the driver to choose a soft ride for long road trips or a sport setting for maximum control on tricky roads or for driving off-road. The RZ does not have adjustable shocks. Come see why the Acura ZDX is the top luxury electric crossover in the segment at Pohanka Acura.
